a push forward as i look back

Hey, hey Reader,

Phew. As 2025 comes to a close, I want to pause and look back for a moment.

Professionally, it was a year of intentional yeses.

Personally, 2025 broke me, and I learned that growth and grief can exist at the same time.

So let’s look back on those yeses, shall we?

Highlights from 2025

🎟️Attended my third BETT conference and developed a partnership that’s still going strong today. (And speaking of BETT...will you be there? If so, reply to this email and let’s make time to meet.)

📧Launched my email marketing course. Something I’d been sitting with for a while before committing to it.

🎙️Went on my first podcast

🗣️Raised my hand for an email marketing event in March 2026 (it’s free; you can register here)

📦Attended an email deliverability workshop to lean into the less glamorous parts of email that make everything else work

📝Applied to, and was accepted into, Emma Stratton’s Punchy Messaging course in January 2026 (so excited for this one

🤝Continued supporting a different solutions providers who are solving complex challenges in education

Looking ahead to 2026, my hope is to build deeper connections with all of you, continue growing this newsletter with realistic and helpful support, and continue to build thoughtful partnerships.

I say this often, but it’s worth repeating, thank you for being here.

This newsletter started as an idea. It’s grown because you open it, read it, reply to it, and in some cases, choose to work with me because of it.

I don’t take that lightly. So thank you, a thousand times over.

Have a happy holiday with the people you love. Enjoy it, and I’ll see you next year.

And as always, I'm rooting for you,

Kelly

Hey, hey Reader, I was in my early 20s, standing at a local bar, minding my business. And then a woman I had never met locked eyes with me from across the room, pointed, and declared, loudly, that I was her new wink girl. I didn't know what a wink girl was. I still don't, really. Before I could ask, she had grabbed my arm and was parading me around to her friends and colleagues like I had already said yes to something. There was no introduction. No ask. No "hey, I'm so and so, I own a...

Hey, hey Reader, The first full week of being back in New Jersey from Denmark, I enrolled my son in his new school, got a new car, presented at a speaking event, and interviewed for a job and got it (🎉). Phew. So now I needed childcare, fast, for the upcoming summer. I posted in a local Facebook group asking for a nanny for my 7-year-old son. I wasn't vague. I listed the exact days, the exact hours, and five specific week-long windows in July and August. I handed them the info on a silver...

Kelly Cline, EdTech email marketer, smilling at the camera

Something interesting is happening inside Gmail, Reader. Google has started testing out AI-powered email summaries and inbox tools. For us that means admins can now ask their inbox questions like: “What decisions came out of last month’s faculty meeting?“What are the PD dates for SoR?”“Which email mentioned a webinar?” That’s new (but keep in mind this is in its beta-form; Google's simply trying out for now). Email has never had to think about search behavior before. SEO lived on websites...
